In x-files' Clyde Bruckman's Final Repose (Season 3) why does Peter Boyle commit suicide in the end ? I thought he predicted he would be killed by the psychopath.

"He foresaw his death, but he never predicted the serial killer would kill him"

Bruckman predicted that he would die before detective Havez, which was wrong. But he predicted that Scully would find him in bed when he died, which was right. He had gotten fed up with his "gift" and so decided to be done with it.

There was a "real" Clyde Bruckman, though he wasn't a psychic. He was a scriptwriter who worked for Buster Keaton, Harold Lloyd, and Laurel and Hardy, and he committed suicide in real life. So in The X-Files, Darrin Morgan based the character on that famous scriptwriter and he wanted to mirror his real life death. That's the practical reason of why he committed suicide, though it's not entirely satisfying within the episode itself. But it is still a quite effective moment when Scully finds him.

Mystery, Hi, I answered your question re: Memento type movies. While I was thinking of the movies I saw and wanted to recommend to you, the X-Files episode was in my mind. I didn't include it, because you had asked for movies. After I submitted my answer, I clicked on to see what other questions you had asked. Imagine my surprise when I saw this question!

Oh, the reason why I didn't submit an "Answer" to this question -- I have no idea why Clyde Bruckman/Peter Boyle killed himself. But, this was a fantastic episode. In fact, in case you didn't know, Peter Boyle won an Emmy award for this role.
