If your refrig isn't in its defrost cycle then it is possible the compressor is out (or compressor motor likely).

"Sounds like what happened to mine! You need it serviced!"

Hopefully, it's under warranty. Call Sears, they will know.

Mine did some same thing and the repair guy had to replace a motor in the freezer. Is the back wall of freezer frosting over badly? Is there water starting to leak either inside freezer or on floor?

My repair guy had to defrost it all with a high powered blow dryer. Then replaced a part, a motor, I think. They knew what the problem was as soon as I described what was happening.

It would have cost about $200 if my warranty was not still good.

I'm afraid you will have to call Sears and have someone come out. Leave it plugged in so he can see the problem in person.

I put all the food I wanted to keep in a cooler outside, it was winter, thank goodness. You need to take all your food to a neighbors, friend, or family. There is nothing you can do and I am sure it is the same problem mine had!  Sorry about the bad news, but you need a new part!!

Good luck!!  OOOH, and on a weekend, hope it's still under warranty!!

It's too late now, but you may want to pick up a repair manual if you are handy at all!!

"Sounds like your fridge/freezer has died <:O("

If you have some large coolers, you can buy some bags of ice and pack the frozen food in them.  Call your neighbors and see if anyone has some freezer space.

I'm afraid you had a bad Friday the 13th...

Better plan on hitting Home Depot in the morning.  They have a deal going on right now where you can buy an appliance and make no payments for one full year.  Some also have a $55.00 delivery rebate that you have to mail in.

I had to run down there and get a new washing machine...but made sure to pay it off in about 7 months.  If you should forget and go past the free year, the interest charges tacked on will be really high.

LC, I bought my Hotpoint five years ago and I think it has a 5 yr. warranty, so it's up now. Maybe yours does too.
I think when you call for service, they should be able to tell if it still has warranty, just by your name & address. If you still have the receipt, that's great, but I didn't need mine.
Big drag, I know, but it's nice that you had extra fridge and freezer.
