"Twist hair in a downward motion to locate split ends."

the tips given at the website:

- Take small sections of hair and carefully twist them in a gentle downward motion. Any split ends will automatically stick out.
- Carefully snip into the twist with sharp scissors. Don’t cut right through; just cut into the thickness to remove the damaged cuticles and give a natural layered effect.
- Be careful to cut roughly the same amount from each twist. Remember, sometimes the simplest, and least expensive, ideas are the best. So get trimming!

(note: you should be able to spot split ends better if they're on a background you can see against. I have darker hair so if I put my hair against something white or light-colored I can see the split ends better.)

Hope this helps.

"Look for the split ends; it's called dusting"

I have very dry hair, so I feel your pain!

There's a technique called "dusting" that has worked well for me. It's called dusting because you cut off just a smigen on the ends of the hair, and it produces a fine dust when all the ends are cut off. Women with long hair, or women that don't want to sacrifice length use this technique quite often.

Here's how:
Get some nice, sharp scissors that you use only for hair care. This is important, because dull scissors can cause more split/dead ends.

Next, grab a bit of hair, and look at it (use a mirror if your hair is shorter). Look at each individual hair. The ones that are dry or damaged will look either split or fuzzy at the ends. They might also feel uneven or rough at the end (moreso tha normal hair). This split/fuzzyness is what you'll want to lop off. Simply snip off the broken part with the tip of your scissors.

Be careful though. If your hair is really damaged, using this technique will result in uneveness, so go to a hairstylist if you see a lot of damage. Ask them to just remove the damage.

"Acutally, ALL of your hair is dead."

Hair is not a living thing. The lovely silky hair on your head is as dead as a door nail. The only "living" part of your hair is the follicle from which it grows.
From hairformula37.com:
"Hair is actually dead material when it leaves it's root - otherwise it would hurt very much when your hairdresser works with his scissors."

When you trim your hair, you should trim the split ends.
Try this link. It will give you more information on split ends and some very easy ways to trim your hair yourself.

Good Luck!
