Details:

so i have a friend who got pregnant while taking birth control pills. she didn't find out until she was about 10 weeks along that she was even pregnant. she admits that she probably was a bit inconsistent in taking them (sometimes took them at different times each day, or forgot for a couple days to even take the pills) so I guess that's how she got pregnant, but she worries that by taking them for so long while being pregnant that there could be some affect on the fetus. Anyone have any thoughts/knowledge on this?

"I did the same thing with my daughter"

I was homeless at the time, so I wasn't keeping very good track of things like menstruation cycles. I realized I was pregnant around Christmas and I had my baby (two weeks late) in July, and was still taking the pill until I took the pregnancy test. The only reason I even took the test was because I kept getting sick every time I tried to drink at parties. I would smell the alcohol and puke before even taking a drink!

I know that it does give her baby a higher risk of miscarriage or even birth defects, but that doesn't mean that it will happen. My baby was perfectly healthy, and high rates of miscarriage run in my family. She should just make sure the doctor or midwife knows what happened so they can watch for any complications that might be associated with it.

"yes, but it depends on the kind of pill and how long it is used while pregnant. She should talk to her OB about it."

It will most likely be fine but she should talk to her OB.

But I am pretty sure she is pretty safe, especially if it is a girl.
