Lucky Sixpence Coin and Card

"Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed, Something Blue,...and a Sixpence for Her Shoe." For hundreds of years, brides have worn a sixpence coin in their shoe to bless their marriage with wealth and prosperity. Until now most brides in the United States could not find these coins.

Each sixpence arrives in a beautiful card with matching envelope. We printed our cards and envelopes on acid free wedding invitation paper so you can keep them in your wedding album.

(note: I have no relationship to these vendors which I found through Google)

Remember that GBP 1 is roughly USD 2.

Go here: http://www.abccoinsandtokens.com/British%20Milled.html

where a 1907 sixpence will cost you about $8 + shipping

.

If you’d rather have a young Queen Victoria, you can get this for $16 plus shipping:

.

There are a number of other samples for sale as well.

.

Or, go to the following link for some rarer samples...then click on Sixpences on the left hand column...if you are not seeking a rare antique, advance to the 20th Century coins...

By the way, it sounds like hearty congratulations are in order!! May you two share a lifetime of happiness.

"eBay, the local coin shop"

They don't mint sixpences any more.  They're not as useful since they changed to a decimal currency, and "six" is no longer a useful multiple.

But there are still plenty around.  eBay has plenty of them, and they're so cheap you'll pay more to ship them than to buy them.  It's still considerably more than their face value, but it's only a couple of bucks.  (Their face value is less than the cost of the stamp it would take to get it to you.)  They made sixpences out of silver, and they're worth more as silver than the face value, but their value to collectors is higher than that.

You can probably get them for even less at a local coin ship.  Look up "coins" in the yellow pages.
