Details:

My wedding was cancelled. The reception site, photographer, florist...it was all cancelled very easily, but now I'm stuck with this dress I have no intention of ever using. (Even if I decide to marry ever again I wouldn't want to use the same dress I would have used this time.) I need to sell it. It's a $900 David's Bridal Oleg Cassini white, a-line gown with a beaded bodice. It's a size 6. I've been trying to find local consignment shops in Rhode Island, but none of them seem to deal in wedding dresses. Help! I can't even stand having it in the same house with me.

"I'm so sorry :(, but here's a solution"

Try putting the dress on eBay. A lot of brides use it to look for dresses. You won't get your $900 back, but at least it will be out of the house. If that's not a good solution, donate it to charity and take some tax writeoff.

Have you checked online at all?  Ebay seems to be an obvious choice.

This is a popular site:  http://www.preownedweddingdresses.com/

You also might want to get on www.theknot.com and advertise on your local message board.

"I believe you could try to sell it on ebay"

ebay has a section for auctions of bridal gowns. There is a similar dress to yours at http://cgi.ebay.com/OLEG-CASSINI-SIZE-6-BEAUTIFUL-WEDDING-GOWN-DAVIDS-BRID_W0QQitemZ290167534497QQihZ019QQcategoryZ63851QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

That particular dress has a very low starting bid of $50 (at the time I checked, there were no bids on it) You could have a higher starting bid, you can specify a reserve price, and you can specify a buy-it-now price if you really need to unload it quickly.

"How About a Classified Ad"

I have found that a classified ad in a local news paper or shopping guide is a great way to sell items from a wedding. You may also want to try and locate a trading assistant for Ebay. With a trading assistant the work of listing, selling and shipping belongs to them and after you pay them a fee the profits are yours.
