"Will they ever revive the Star Control series?"

Details:

Star Control 2 was one of my favorite games of all time. SC3 was a bit of a let down but I think the time is right to revive the series.

Legend Entertainment, the developer of the Star Control series was shut down in January 16 of 2004 by an arbitrary business decision of Atari, and while there have been attempts to convice Atari to continue supporting Legend Entertainment's games none of them worked at all.

Therefore, due to the executives who know nothing about games, it's unlikely that they will ever make a new SC.

The Ur-Quan Masters is a modernized and updated version of Star Control 2 that's released as open source software.  It's based on the code for the 3DO version and has been updated, bug fixed, and ported to current versions of Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux.


According to the Wikipedia article on Star Control, there have been some hints to an official Star Control 2 sequel back in 2006, but there's been nothing new since then.
