Details:

My 15 yr old son is having a friend over. They got into a bubble gum blowng contest that resulted in bubbles being popped onto each other's face and hair. When I stop laughing, I need to tell them how to get it off. Any tried and true suggestions?

"Rub peanut butter all over the sticky mess. Wash/shampoo and repeat as necessary."

I won't go into detail you surely don't want to know about how I know this, but gum in the hair -- which I used to believe had to be cut out -- can be removed using peanut butter. Take big globs of peanut butter and rub it all over the gum. This can be washed out with shampoo and water. (Make sure you have your camera ready; excessive use of peanut butter in the hair can be a memory you want to save for prosperity!)

"Peanut butter!"

The oil in the peanut butter counteracts the bubble gum's stickiness.  Might make the situation a little more fun, too!  :)  Sounds like you all are having a blast!

"My girls did this once, I guess when they were about 10 or 11."

They had longish hair at the time and it was in there and on their faces, necks and so on.

so, we had 'em take a shower and wash well, using a washrag. That got it all off except for some of their hair. Their mom and I then helped them pick it out of their hair. Comb and tug. I got the bright idea of putting ice on their hair, and besides the "That's cold" screaming, it came right off, with a comb. Pretty cool.

"Peanut Butter!"

Ok, I seem to be recommending peanut butter all over the place these days, but the truth is that the oils in peanut butter are really good at removing sticky stuff!  If either has longish hair, pull back and secure any un-affected areas.  With boys, this may not be a concern...  Smear a good amount of peanut butter on the gummed area.  Rub the gum between your thumb and fingers, working the peanut butter in to it.  Eventually the gum will lose it's stickiness and you should be able to get it all out fairly easily.  Of course, shampoo carefully afterward to make sure there are no remaining traces.

"This works for me! "

I have always used baby oil or skin so soft from avon and it really worked.

Take a cotton ball and moisten with baby oil or the skin so soft and the face should wipe clean!

For the hair, I sprayed down the gummy part of my daughter's hair real well with skin so soft and combed it out little by little to get the tangles and gum out then swept through it again with a fine tooth comb and got all the gum out!

Rather than using peanut butter -I tried this and it worked better.

When little ones insist on learning to blow bubbles with bubble gum, a parent will eventually have the inevitable chore of gum in someone's hair. LOL It is even more exciting when the hair is on the head of the seven week old newborn, with masses of it. Her older brother did not make a bubble on the first attempt, in fact the whole piece became the glob of gum that stuck to his sister's hair.

Mom, knows better then to use peanut butter, the oil just can't cut the gum, or ice, what on a baby? Skin so Soft from Avon is the most amazing degummer in a pinch. Gum always seems to get stuck at the most inconvenient times, and Mom always carries a small little bottle in her purse for those greatest needs. It smells better then PB, it is washable and not so greasy and Gumout is too toxic for the little ones.

Peanut butter works because of the peanut oil. ANY oil product would work to break the molecular bond. I just used vegetable oil on my daughter. WD40 would work but I would only use that on the residue left from stickers on glass since it stinks too much. Washing oil out of hair is much easier than peanut butter but if you like that sort of thing, knock yourself out!
