I fell in love with that game and have always wondered if anyone remade it or if it was available today.

It's legal to download an emulator of an old system and copies of old games if they are "abandoned" hardware/software. The website http://www.computerbrains.com/ccs64/ has a program that emulates the Commodore 64, and the website http://www.download-full-games.com/c64/games/mail_order_monsters.html has a copy of "Mail Order Monsters". The speed of the gameplay may be a little different depending on the computer you play it on.

MTurk only gave me 20 minutes to answer this question, so I didn't have time to download and test these files. If that copy of mail order monsters doesn't work on the C64 emulator I linked to, hit up google for "Commodore 64 emulator" and try a different one with the game file.
