"Meizu's M8 "

Meizu's M8 (also known as the MiniOne) could be at least temporarily on display in the same country as the iPhone it copies, allege sources speaking to the Chinese mobile site CNMO. The reported insiders say the touchscreen phone will miss its late 2007 target but that it should see a formal introduction at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas for mid-January, potentially representing the first public demonstration of a working model. The actual launch may occur just a month later, according to the report. The touchscreen is said to be refined and very close in functionality to that of the Apple device the company is attempting to duplicate. Just the software is believed to require the final polish before the release.

The M8 is widely regarded as a smaller but potentially more feature-rich phone than the original, with a 3-inch screen, a GPS receiver, and a removable battery known to be part of the final design. It is uncertain as to whether the M8 will support networks outside of its native China, though its radio is likely to allow at least some use outside of the southeast Asian country.

It looks like they have the physical components matched, the hard part will be duplicating the software.

"No one really"

Considering that no one has yet rivaled the iPod in design/ease-of-use (in my opinion) I think it will be very difficult for a company to beat the iPhone. Yes, there are phone with more features, yes there are phones that are smaller/thinner/faster/lighter/have more hardware technology, etc. No, that does not matter.

The great thing about Apple products is the ease-of-use, integration and smoothness of the entire product.

For example the Verizon Voyager, it has a lot of the same features as the iPhone & even some extras like a full keyboard, 2 screens, faster access (but no wi-fi), but almost every review is blah about it because the software sucks. There is no syncing between your PC and the phone without paying $19.95 a month, and then you have to have your PC up and running 24/7 to use the feature. There is no email client built-in without paying extra, the web browser sucks, etc. Apple just nails things like that perfectly, which make their products great to use.

Until other companies realize that instead of slapping on more bullet points of features, they will not match the iPhone in ease-of-use, sleekness, or integration.

In design? a tough one. Apple is know for it's unique and unrivaled designs
In functionality? The iPhone is not really the most advanced smart phone on the market or anywhere near it. e.g. check the Nokia N95...

It would be interesting the see the phone Google is planning to sell somewhere in 2008
