new book" had poll numbers of 84% no and only 16% yes. the poll so far has around 150,000 people responding. When seeing a poll with this kind of "divide" doesn't that show that most cable news channels have their own political leanings? Numbers on the book sale so far are very brisk.
I would love to see that question asked on MSNBC I would bet that 95% say no.
Do you think it is fair to the city of New York to have to burden with all that comes with a trial of this caliber? (e.g. the security, the money, ect.)
I'm doing a project for a Peace Studies class at my college on the conflict in Northern Ireland, and I've been having difficulty finding sources on the current state of the conflict. Would anyone be able to point me in the right direction? I've tried searching Lexis Nexis and various newspapers but haven't had much luck. Thanks for your help.
If we fail to pay pur mortgages, where is the assistance for us? Our homes are repossessed and there goes our credit score. Does it seem fair that we are paying their debt?
What I mean is -- and I'm as passionate and get as wound up as just about anyone -- do you ever think of what a shame it is that the way politics has polarized us makes us actually dismiss one another as bad people, literally? Even breaks up our families?
From what I understand, up until just before the McCarthy Hearings, people spoke easily about politics at parties and gatherings and could disagree pleasantly.
Now, all the issues have been packed with morality and judgementalism and -- hate, actually.
I know this makes me sound like an anarchist, but "divide and conquer" sure seems like a great strategy to me if you want to keep the poor, working, and middle classes from banding together and doing something about the ruling class robbing their savings and importing their jobs, paying for universal healthcare in Israel but not in the U.S., and deciding to become neo-imperialists at the expense of the next four generations to come.
President Ronald Reagan in 1982 passed the largest peacetime tax increase in American history: the Tax Equity and and Responsibility Act, which raised $37.5 billion dollars, or 1% of gross domestic product(GDP), per year. He also signed a $3.3 billion gasoline-tax increase. The next year he signed another whopping tax hike designed to save Social Security. So, my question is this: If the hero of the Republican party saw the necessity to impose taxes, why didn't George Bush Jr. do the same at the outset of the Iraq and Afghanistan war instead of borrowing the money from aboard and putting this nation in hock to China?
Both govt. and religion seem to have the same objective of keeping large groups of people in control, and / or acting upon their impulses that would leave a society in anarchy.
patriotic avatars like the statue of liberty, the bald eagle, stars and stripes and relish in bombastic negative statements about our President? Do patriotic avatars give one the right to slam our President at every turn?
I challenge these patriots to come up with one admirable thing our President has done that they honestly did not expect that he would do. (My husband is painting and my kids are in bed; I am up for this!)
Conservative talk radio and tv networks perpetuate fear consistantly. Is this the real face of the Republican Party? When we are so scared about our future, terrorist win. Do Republican/Conservatives really want to be known as the party of fear? What happened to hope and faith and trust in God?
The majority of Americans self-identify as conservative (31%), moderate (35%), and liberal (16%). Many Askville members are moderates, as reflects the USA as a whole.
Many Askville members are at the far ends of the spectrum. The number who self-identify at either end of the political viewpoint spectrum comprise fewer than 15% of the USA as a whole. 9% self-identify as very conservative, and 5% self-identify as very liberal.
Now I have seen many good questions, and good answers.........that is, answers with logic, with facts, with backup, with sources cited. But I have also seen answers and comments that are primarily personal insults. This has nothing to do with amusing answers or comical comments: it has to do with personal insults.
So I ask Askvillers: is it the emotional involvement in politics, or just plain bad manners?
According to the Askville blog: "Askville is not a chat room. If a post isn’t a question, an answer or a discussion that relates to the question then it doesn’t belong on Askville. If you are looking for a place to chat with others there are lots of options on the Internet"
So seriously, post some links and suggestions. Where can we all get together to haggle, gossip, exchange banter and jibes?
I realize our language is English based. Or maybe I should say "British" based. What would be a better description: American English? Amerilish? Surely someone can do better.
"Ten states are not going to be able to end the year in the black. Tax revenues keep falling faster than they can or want to cut government spending and welfare programs. All of this belies the sense of an imminent recovery. The states that are deepest in the red are California, Arizona, Rhode Island, Michigan, Oregon, Nevada, Florida, New Jersey, Illinois and Wisconsin."
This leaves them with some unpalatable alternatives: raise taxes, DEEP budget cuts, or defaulting on already large debts. Should the USG create more money to bail them out?
By law, states can't print their own way out of this jam like the USG does. What's the best way to deal with this growing problem?
