Details:

My wife and I might be moving to Kansas City for a job. We are looking for the following:

1. Someplace downtown. We want to experience the urban lifestyle
2. Safety. I know crime can happen anywhere, but I don't want to be worried about taking our dog out at night or walking home from dinner
3. Allows a small dog
4. Quite (thick walls)
5. Area that has people of similar age. We've done the college thing, so now we're looking for the late 20s - early 40s range
6. Walking distance to shops, food, bars. (Just so we don't have to drive all the time)

Also would like a gym and security controlled parking/entrance.

Our budget is around $1000 a month rent, but would be willing to go a little higher for more amenities.

Also, the area we are looking is south of the river, and north of the crown center (again for the walking aspect)

Thank you for helping me get my search stated

Hi Newbie!

I’ve lived in Metro Condo for 3 years and LOOOOVED it. It was the perfect and I think it completely fits all of your criteria. I’ve tried to list specific answers in bold next to your criteria.

1. Someplace downtown. We want to experience the urban lifestyle It’s at 8th and Cherry street about 7 blocks from the Sprint Center, P&L district, and River Market (in different directions)

2. Safety. I know crime can happen anywhere, but I don’t want to be worried about taking our dog out at night or walking home from dinner I have never given walking home from my office (10th and Main) a second thought. At night I won’t walk alone, but I wouldn’t do that anywhere. I walked home from concerts all the time with my friends with no problems ever!

3. Allows a small dog The building allows dogs (1 or 2, no more) up to about 20ish lbs but you would have to talk to your landlord to verify.

4. Quite (thick walls) The building is cement. Occasionally, on the weekend, I would hear music from my next door neighbors unit coming from under the front door but really had no issue with noise.

5. Area that has people of similar age. We’ve done the college thing, so now we’re looking for the late 20s - early 40s range Metro Condo’s units are really big enough for families (but perfect for 2 like my husband and I) so you have a lot of younger people and couples. There are some empty nesters  but would say the majority of the residents are younger. The building is also not real close to the colleges downtown so there don’t seem to be a lot of college students.

6. Walking distance to shops, food, bars. (Just so we don’t have to drive all the time) Also would like a gym and security controlled parking/entrance. You can walk to some shops, all of P&L and Sprint Center and if you’re up for it the Crossroads section. There is a bus about 1 block from the building that will take you directly to the Plaza and Westport (the Max).

The parking is secured with a key card that you need to get into the parking garage/lot and then again to get into the building. There is a fully equiped gym and pool and sauna on the roof. There are also some other amenities that you might like.

Our budget is around $1000 a month rent, but would be willing to go a little higher for more amenities. Also, the area we are looking is south of the river, and north of the crown center (again for the walking aspect) Thank you for helping me get my search stated Your budget sounds about right depending on how big of a unit you’d like. If you want some more info on the building from an insiders perspective feel free to private message me. Because of a short term job relocation I don’t live in the building right now but am still on the message board and can find all the units that are available.

I also know the area pretty well, since I lived there for almost 4 years, if this isnt the building you’re interested in.

Hope this helps and good luck in your search!

I visited Kansas City on a business trip once. I don't know enough about it to make any recommendations, but I have to say that I found the part that I was in absolutely lovely - fountains everywhere, lots of BBQ places and interesting stores...I was surprised at how nice it was. Wouldn't mind going back there some day.
