Zeus is a 8.5 year old, German Rott with the demeanor of an angel. He is very well behaved, well trained and extremely loved and respected member of the family. He was diagnosed with bone cancer in his front left leg, and the results from his latest test will be made available this Wed-Thur. He has 2 people, mom and dad, that are his voice, because obviously he doesn't have one being a dog. Mom says it doesn't matter what I say, she is going to amputate his leg if they only find cancer in that leg. This is a dog that loves life. A very happy dog. Zeus' favorite thing to do is run up and down the beach, try and eat the foam from the saltwater...yeah he can be a dork:-) Chase shadows and the laser pointer...if you ever saw him in the yard playing by himself, you couldn't help but think of that song by Heart, "Dog and Butterfly". Truly this mans best friend:-) Can anyone out there honestly tell me he would be happy with 3 legs? What if the other front leg had to go? Cut that one off too?
I've seen some cases of animal cruelty from working at an SPCA and to me the punishment for animal cruelty isn't enforced as concretely as it should be. It is a hidden crime that is growing faster than we can blink. What are your opinions on animal cruelty? Should there be harsher punishment? Why doesn't law enforcement see it as a major crime no matter to what extent of cruel the incident was? I am big on animal cruelty and I also think that violence towards animals is an underlying sign of potential abuse to humans. Should there be further investigation?
OK -- I have asked the question, so I get to do what is probably the most common and obvious animal extacy routine around.
Every cat I've had, including my moody little boy Omar, LUVS getting that place at the base of his tail patted -- I think I've actually patted it for so long and so hard that now, no matter what, if I get in bed and say "Where's my boy?" withing 60 seconds he has jumped up on my stomach and is waiting for those pats.
I have some favorite Youtube videos of cats enjoying this, but I have no idea how to put a video into this window without a place at the top indicating this stuff, or a 2nd window that asks for the videos.
Someone told me this place on cats has a gazillion nerve endings !!! OMG my cat starts looking way up in the air .... like he's waiting for angels to come lift him to kitty heaven any moment ....
I've had my canary for about 4 months. We got him when he was around 6 months old from a pet shop. We take good care of him, clean out his cage, change his water and feed him regularly. He seems to be pretty happy for the most part. Today I noticed that his nails were extremely long...way too long and that there was a huge clump of poop stuck to his butt. I took him out of his cage and washed the poop off and trimmed his nails, but I'm not sure what's wrong with him!! :(
Have a possum on a screened porch. He/she refuses to leave with door open all night several times. I don't want to monkey around with traps - I just need him (or her) to go a couple feet out the door and he won't get in again as long as I remember to keep door closed. There is ample habitat once outside.
Any suggestions? Already tried cat food, and it wasn't enough to entice him/her although he/she does like getting into my Kiki's food dish. Help?
I want a medium size, medium haired dog that does not shed much. I do want them to be protective but not overly protective. I don't want a dog that barks all the time but also not one that never barks. Any suggestions?
Has anyone seen this first hand? When my dad was dying from liver cancer X-mas, 2006 he had a 16 year old dog. He was clingy with my dad anyway, so I ma not sure if there was a change in his behavior or not, plus I did not live with my father to see. We brought Hospice in as he wanted to pass at home, and I will say, during the last couple of days, that dog was acting strange. I have never seen a ghost and I do not claim to, but this dog kept looking around and up at the ceiling. Is it possible he was seeing something?
I've heard that dogs can somehow predict when a earthquake or storm might happen, as well cats, but I'm not sure if this is true. If it is true, what behavior would the animals display that suggests they think something might happen?
My son is 3 and wants a puppy for Christmas we live in the country and have a lab and catahoula ker and they both love the side open space we have. Any info on a pupppy by xmas would be great and I would be interested in a mix of irish setter and gordon setter
I have a Black Kittie that has made my home her own she was a stray at first but slowly moved her self in she lets me pet her but when ever I try to pick her up she bites and scratches me up.Is she just wild or what???I know she likes me or she wouldn't be here.Whats up with that crazy ass Cat???
I have a lab cross retriever and she destroys every toy except for Kongs, anyway i have extended the playing area outside and i thought a tire hanging with a chain could be a good source of entertainment for her to pull at and chew! just wondering if there is any risk from the tire or if i can just get one from a garage.
He poops outside the litter box, usually with in 4 feet of the box almost every morning. He has peeped outside the litter box several times, by that I mean right next to it. He did have one problem urinating on an area rug too. All his bad habits started after I got married 3 years and 7 months ago. I have had him in several times because he suffered blockage almost 6 years ago and had surgery for it. He was on special dry food for awhile until this summer when the vet said i should use this diet food because he is overweight at 17lbs they want him at 14-15. I am getting pretty frustrated with him because his litter is usually clean when this happens, he has not had UTI any other time he has done this, and I am wracking my brain to find out whats causing the attitude. One vet did tell me it was an attitude problem 2 years ago, but why? Anyone got any suggestions, I am pretty frustrated.
Do animals speak regional languages? If I emigrated from the United States to South America and I took my family dog with me, would his bark be understood by South American dogs?
My Max is 4 months old, he's the cutest little miniature Yorkie you have ever seen. What a sweet heart of a puppy he is. There is only one problem I have with him. No matter how much water there is in the water bowl, he feels he must drink it all. When he's dome drinking he swells up like a balloon! He can't walk and he can't sit. He just stands there looking very confused. I don't want to pick him up because he feels like he is going to pop! What should I do?
My 9-month-old black lab is a well-behaved dog in almost all respects, but she has one big problem. During the night, after we have fallen asleep, she will lay on the bed and chew holes in our blankets, sheets and pillows. Sometimes she will get down off the bed and chew on any clothes on the floor. We can't put any towels, padding or blankets in her crate, or she chews them up while she is in there too. She sometimes even chews up the carpet while she's home alone. She has plenty of toys to chew on, including Kongs, Nylabones, and rawhides.
I know she is probably bored while we are asleep/away, (possibly chewing on our things because they smell like us) and the easiest solution is to crate her. But we enjoy letting her sleep on the bed; and we have trained her to stop chewing everything else. It must be possible to train her to stop chewing fabric as well, but I don't know how. We have tried bitter spray and punishing her when we catch her, but no luck! Help?
The tip of the coil broke off and pieces of glass fell onto the carpet and onto a small pillow and some items that were under the lamp. I cleaned them off with a damp cloth and did the same thing with the carpet. I used tape to pick up pieces of glass. I also washed the pillows along with some bibs that were near by. Should I not use the bibs if I washed them with the pillow? How is it that a tiny bit of mercury can "contaminate your washer"? I let the room air out also. What else should I do or should I not even worry about it?
: I forgot to mention that the crib is about a foot away from the bulb does that matter.
I know that I could go to a shelter or rescue organization and just pick out a likable pet, but I am hoping to locate one that has been trained, as much as one experienced in pet therapy, feels is necessary and helpful. This is for emotional health therapy. Perhaps even some good one-on-one guidance in selecting the pet would help. This is in the metro area of DC. Thank you.
I'm looking to get some ideas of cities/towns I should research to make a possible move to.
I'm 27 and single and would like to move somewhere that I can afford to purchase my first home. I don't want to live in the boonies, I need to live somewhere that is no more than a half hour drive from a decent mall and less than 10 minutes to the necessity stores -- grocery stores, Home Depot/Lowe's, Target/Wal-Mart, etc. I don't mind the snow (as a matter of fact, I love it!) and I'm going to be starting my own graphic design/letterpress business out of my home in whatever town I move to. A decent arts community would be a plus, though not required. I'd also like to live within an hour's drive to an International Airport. And I rely heavily on my car...I don't like relying on public transportation to get me where I need to be. I'd like to be as close as possible to friends and family living in Upstate NY, Northern VT, Central/Eastern PA and New Jersey.
In the early days of Askville, Askville seemed much more like a "community" than it does now--where everybody got to know one another (for good or bad), and many formed groups of friends who more-or-less hung-out in the same Discussion Boards, and complimented and PMed one another on a semi-regular basis. Sure, some of us got into arguments from time-to-time, but they rarely escalated into the vile types of DB exchanges that now seem to seem to be becoming the "norm" on here.
What makes it even worse is that a great many early members have either left Askville entirely, or show-up only rarely these days--leaving Askville mainly to "drive-by" Question askers and transient members I've never even heard of! Most of the "old guard" has virtually disappeared (to the delight of many of the more trollish newer members!), and I--for one--take little or no delight in coming here anymore.
Why hang-out with a bunch of strangers--many of whom are downright unpleasant?
I am corncerned that it might be abandoned or worse there might be a body in there My cousin's husband did call Cityhall/police station but no one has come to check on it I told him to call again but he said Im nagging Should I call the police tomorrow if the car is still there? It is no longer blocking our mailbox
