The question is not whether or not it's right to tell that sort of thing to a child, but whether or not parents believe it. Parents I know, including my own, have lost much hope in the difficult struggle of raising children. Whereas younger friends of mine despise the encouragement, believing it to be a lie and false hope. Also consider other responsible figures (teachers, relatives, and the rest) saying the same thing.

Zeus is a 8.5 year old, German Rott with the demeanor of an angel. He is very well behaved, well trained and extremely loved and respected member of the family. He was diagnosed with bone cancer in his front left leg, and the results from his latest test will be made available this Wed-Thur. He has 2 people, mom and dad, that are his voice, because obviously he doesn't have one being a dog. Mom says it doesn't matter what I say, she is going to amputate his leg if they only find cancer in that leg. This is a dog that loves life. A very happy dog. Zeus' favorite thing to do is run up and down the beach, try and eat the foam from the saltwater...yeah he can be a dork:-) Chase shadows and the laser pointer...if you ever saw him in the yard playing by himself, you couldn't help but think of that song by Heart, "Dog and Butterfly". Truly this mans best friend:-) Can anyone out there honestly tell me he would be happy with 3 legs? What if the other front leg had to go? Cut that one off too?

My 6 year old likes to read, but is still in a beginner stage.She has read everything on her level in our house and a lot of the books at the library. I am looking for ideas for good stories I could get her for her birthday. Fiction or non-fiction are both good as long as it is beginner level.

every morning yew wake up, get ready for the day, sometimes go to work or study if your a student, eat, drink, walk the dog or whatever, maybe theres a tv programme you like thats on at 6, same old pub down the road, same old faces, sleep....I can't help but think that routine dominates our lives so much that most of us aren't enjoying it as much as we should. Yew think ooo a holiday would help, and yes the idea does excite you for a bit but most of the time when you get there you fall straight into planning every single day out so theres not really any suprise left. Kind of sad to think about really...Is there anything without routine??

I would like to make one family member guardian of our child in the event of both of our deaths. And the other family member in charge of the trust for the child. Im i asking for problems having two diffrent people involved, I feel its safer.
Or, am i better off making the guardian and trustee the same person?

My daughter is 5 years old and this had been going on for a little while its not a everyday thing but like every few months she'd be sleeping and out of no where she would start shaking like a twitching, some times she would grind her teeth... I asked my doctor and they couldn't tell me anything just to time it and it never lasts more than a minute she said if it lasts that long than she would try to do something about it... it always lasts less than a minute... but i'm worryed... I don't know what to do...

My family of mom, dad and five kids didn't keep us from loading up the old van and the old dog and driving around the country, camping out every night with my dad's homemade tent. Yeah, we probably looked like the Joads, but we had fun. My mom never complained even when we had to take a little baby along. Driving through the desert, even Rags, the dog, got his allotment of ice.

Anyway, do you think kids are spoiled today? I do remember Hawaiian Punch being a real treat for birthday parties. Still love that stuff! On Saturday nights we would put on Mitch Miller and HAD to sing along, have root beer floats with popcorn. We would wait for a long time when we really wanted something.

Kids today want instant gratification, knowing that from personal experience. My son, age 27. has a good job in NY now, but is and always was, very spoiled. I think it was based on guilt that I felt dragging hi m off to a babysitter at 2 months old. I felt guilty but he was fine!

My five year old lost her beloved Big Moo that she's had since birth. It was purchased at Macy's in January of 2004. It had a tag that said "Just Friends", was blue and yellow with a few yellow yarn "hairs" between its horns, and when you pulled its tail, it played Brahms Lullaby. I believe Chosun International produced the "Just Friends" line.

I want her to have a healthy outlook regarding sex and about being a woman, but these videos portray women as sexy tigers, licking their fingers and doing backward cha-cha-cha moves that are explicitly related to sex. She loves to sing and likes to watch YouTube (not allowed without me there), but they see these portrayals everywhere. I am sick of this skewed portrayal that women have to be gorgeous, thin and act like all they want is sex. What do you think? Yeah, I am pretty irritated, if you haven't noticed!

What do you attribute this to? Seems like they do not have the same respect for their elders as when were raised. I was not even allowed to be shy. I had to shake hands with adults at age 7. Also, I was not allowed to say an Aunt or Uncle's name unless Aunt or Uncle preceded their name. Do you think the schools lack discipline?

what do I do when my 15 yr old girl keeps verbally abusing all my other children. She makes them cry and hurts their little hearts all the time such as stupid idiots, dumb morons, loosers ect...Today I had enough and told her if she does not stop talking like that Im gonna smack that dirty mouth of hers. That I was tired of her verbally abusing the other children. She told me if I ever were to hurt her/hit her that she would call 911 before I could blink my eyes. What should I do with her? Ground her? Send her to her dads? She is a great kid..Awesome grades helps with the house work...ect....But is just plan out mean and bossy 2 my younger one's. But I will not have no 15 year old threatening me in my house that I pay the mortgage on..Any ideas? Who does she think she is?

Isn't the legal age for a child to no longer require adult supervision, the age of twelve? I am just wondering because an 11 year old girl was running with friends Friday night, and it was dark and she ran out in the traffic and was struck by one car and then run over and dragged 20 feet by another. She was pronounced DOA. My question is, if she was underage, would someone, parents/parent be responsible?

this is stemming from jealousy because me and my husband have a great relationship and wants the child at the grandmother home not mine. she has told the child he is not to come here no longer and the child shakes and gets punshed if he does. this is wrong . to punsh the child. the child loves to be here with us and my other children. can i take her to court if she and her husband now are punishing this child for spending time with my husband and me .

It is Painful to hear some Mothers speak to their children in such a hideous way.

When I'm cruising around Askville I frequently get a binging sound followed by a message saying I had an "Ajax Error". The messages usually come in multiples of 3 or 4 and are difficult to clear from my screen so I can get on to the next exiting adventure on the 'Ville.

In the early days of Askville, Askville seemed much more like a "community" than it does now--where everybody got to know one another (for good or bad), and many formed groups of friends who more-or-less hung-out in the same Discussion Boards, and complimented and PMed one another on a semi-regular basis. Sure, some of us got into arguments from time-to-time, but they rarely escalated into the vile types of DB exchanges that now seem to seem to be becoming the "norm" on here.

What makes it even worse is that a great many early members have either left Askville entirely, or show-up only rarely these days--leaving Askville mainly to "drive-by" Question askers and transient members I've never even heard of! Most of the "old guard" has virtually disappeared (to the delight of many of the more trollish newer members!), and I--for one--take little or no delight in coming here anymore.

Why hang-out with a bunch of strangers--many of whom are downright unpleasant?

i was hooking a tack up and after i conected the wires and tried to turn the car on, it would turn on then idel real rough then shut right off!

everywhere! It's not that noticable, because it's so fine, but it seems to be on everything and everyone. And they are hacking up furballs, and not in the litter box. So, I got to thinking... Maybe I'll shave my cats and be done with the cat hair problem. Now on the slight chance that I actually do this, and the slim chance that I survive the encounter, are there any downsides??? Besides the cost of the shaving cream, the multiple razors, first aid salve and bandages??? I know the cats aren't likely to be too happy with the turn of events, but will they be safe and warm enough without their fur covering? Will they suicide bacause they look too strange? Am I likely to find "presents" in obscure places?
