Details:

Looking to buy a parenting book on how to care for our newborn baby. There are soooo many books on parenting newborns - would love to get people's opinions on what books they've read and would recommend.

""What to Expect the First Year""

This series is soooo good!  I first picked up the "What to Expect When You’re Expecting", then to the the "...the First Year" and finally on to the "...Toddler Years".  All excellent books, with great details, charts, ideas, etc.  There's a good list of symptoms, in case your little one isn't feeling well, as well as places to keep track of growth, etc.

Blessings on the bundle of joy!

"The Everything Baby's First Year Book: Complete and practical advice to get you and your baby through the first 12 month"

I am a twenty four year old mother of an 11th month old baby boy.  This book was all I read while I was pregnant and have continuously referenced it since my son was born.  Its set up really well.  Its chapters are arranged so that whatever it is you need to know you just look up in the contents. A lot of baby books are set up by month or age so it's harder to find exactly what your looking for.  You could check it out at the library before buying it to see if it's one you would get use out of.  They make The Everything Books about literally everything.  I also own The Everything Mothers/ Fathers First Year Books.  Hope this helps and congratulations on your new angel.

"Better Homes & Gardens"

I relied on the Baby Book from Better Homes & Gardens.

It offered good practical advice.  It tells you your options, like regarding breastfeeding or bottlefeeding, but doesn't preach one being superior over the other.

"This was my favorite..."

For Pregnancy, it was "What to Expect When You're Expecting." Once the baby is born it's "What to Expect the First Year." My children were being born when these books first came out--several editions later, they'd have even more information, I'm sure.

I Loved the Question and Answer format, it is FULL of valuable and useful information, a VERY well done reference.  I'd also get Dr. Spock, though.

Since I can't see the answers yet, I'm not sure it anyone recommended the book, "What To Expect the First Year" by Arlene Eisenburg, Heidi Murkoff & Sandee Hathaway. This book was my go to book for EVERYTHING. I didn't need another one. I used this, my doctor and the internet. The toddler book is a good one too.
