During art class, my daughter got white paint (don't know what kind) on her her navy blue 100% cotton sweater. Is there a way to get this paint off the sweater?

Don't listen to any nay-sayer that says dried paint won't come out. I have applied rubbing alcohol to old (I'm talking years) paint stain on the sleeve of a favorite sweater. This was an open knit sweater so it took extensive rubbing to work out all the 3-D paint, but it worked!

Just remember to test a small hidden spot and wait 10min before continuing.

Two products I’ve had great luck with are "Goof Off" and "Krud Kutter"...both are sold at hardware stores.  Be sure to buy the "Goof Off" that is formulated for paints.....there’s two kinds of the product that I know of.

Another option is Carbona stain removers.  There's about 7 of them in all...each formulated for a different stain.  They're in little yellow bottles.  They even have one for crayons!!!  I’ve found these at Wal Mart and Target.

The simple way is to take it to your dry cleaners and ask them to remove it. They have special solvents that are less likely to remove the dyes in the sweater.
Or, you can try yourself.
Call the art class teacher and ask what kind of paint and if he has any suggestions.
If it is a latex, soak it in water for one hour for each day the paint has been there. Then freeze the sweater and break the paint off.
If the paint is a solvent based paint, use the solvent that the paint is made with. Test an inconspicuous area first to see if the dye is fast. If it is, soak the paint and wash out the residue with detergent. If the dye dissolves with the solvent, the sweater will be ruined when the paint comes off. Unless the dry cleaners happen to know some tricks.
Good luck.
