I have done some research, and this guy seems to be a winner.

It compares well to the Ipod in size, usability and overall sleekness, but it also has an FM tuner, a voice recorder, an alarm clock, support for subscription services like Urge and Rhapsody, and it can play MP3, OGG and WMA files, so you aren't enslaved to iTunes. It has buttons arranged around the sides, so you kind of have to learn which button does what, which isn't hard. It has great sound.

It and its forebears have gotten rave reviews from cnet, which calls it "nearly perfect."
