"There's probably a problem with the iTunes library."

Open up iTunes and then click "Music" under Library. What do you see? You should see a list of your songs.

IF YOU DO:

Plug in your husband's iPod and sync it. It should work; it syncs whatever's in the library.

IF YOU DON'T:

OK, this is a bit harder. You have to find out where these songs are. Some suggestions: the "My Music" folder if you're in Windows; the Limewire folder (usually under Program Files.) If you're in Windows you can use Search to find them if you know what songs they are (and if the artist or title is in the filename.)
Sources: This is my opinion.

"you need to reset to factory settings. only bad news is it will erase everything that is on it now. "

when you plug it into your computer it automatically recognize it as your husbands ipod to whatever name he has for it. it also will automatically or should open up itunes....there it will ask you if you want to update ipod or reset to factory settings. select factory settings, then its just like u bought a new ipod..should be able to start loading music into it like the first time u got it....only drawback is that your husbands songs will all be erased. and if you can make a list of them so you can just apply them along with yours.
