A rare form of cancer was plaguing 10-year-old Colby Curtin. Doctors diagnosed it as vascular cancer about three years ago and now, it was very apparent that Colby will pass this world soon and even the mother, Lisa Curtin, knows that her dying day is near but one thing kept beautiful little Colby alive- her wish to see the new PIXAR movie entitled "Up".

By the time she saw the preview of the movie, Colby wished she can watch it before she dies. A family friend overheard her wish and along with other people, they frantically tried to contact Pixar and told the Pixar guys about the death wish of Colby Curtin. After learning this, Pixar never hesitated to grant Colby her wish.

The company sent an employee with a DVD copy of "Up" to the Curtins’ Huntington Beach home in California on June 10 so that Colby can watch the movie privately.

The movie is about the evolution of a loving relationship between husband and wife. The wife died of old age ahead of the husband and he was dealing with the loss of his wife by becoming grumpy and attaching thousands of balloons to their house built on love to let it fly into the sky on an adventure and he accidentally tugged along with him a little boy.
Seven hours after Colby have watched the movie, she died.

During the vigil of her daughter's wake, Mrs. Curtin admitted she never had any idea about the story of the movie but what she really saw was thousands of balloons going up to heaven. "I just know that word ‘Up’ and all of the balloons and I swear to you, for me it meant that (Colby) was going to go up. Up to heaven.” And she did, with a smile on her face and Pixar became a part of her life even though it was a short rendezvous.

The mother, along with the rest of the family, were grateful to what Pixar had done for their daughter. The movie was an instrument for everyone to come gather round and comforted themselves. Even the father of Colby, divorced from her mother, came to visit. At that date, around 9:20 PM, Colby died with her mother and father beside her.

"Colby wanted to see the Pixar film, "Up" and her wish was granted."

Bonus Answer
Heartwarming and heartbreaking at the same time, this story on The OC Register today is almost the perfect representation of Up, which carries with it the sadness of accepting death and the courage it takes for family members to move on.

Pixar granted a dying girl's wish to see their latest film, by arranging a private screening for her family. She passed away content seven hours later. Excuse me while I procure a towel. My eyes are perspiring.

10-year-old Colby Curtin was a terminal vascular cancer patient who really wanted to see Up, but was too weak to be moved to a theater to see it. Running out of time, a family friend desperately called up Pixar, got through, and told Colby's story. Pixar agreed to fly an employee to the Curtin house with a DVD of Up and various memorabilia.
