We live in a society that thrives on speed, spending our lives in a huge rush to do whatever we do. If someone isn't moving as fast as we think they should, we're hyper critical. Everything is "Instant Gratification"! What happened to a "job well done" or "working toward a goal?" Does anyone believe in that old fashioned work ethic anymore?
Our HR department announced this morning that they expect health care premiums to go up by 35% for fiscal 2010. Are the insurance companies price-gouging in advance of the legislation pending in Congress? If so, will they get away with it, or will the government retaliate?
a friend. Are there specific, reputable jobsites for those looking in a specific field of work? Or are there some "helpful tips" websites for finding a job in his field. I know that he has over 15 years of work experience for an automotive company and worked in a managerial position for the past few years. I am not really knowledgable about his field nor how to help him in his job search. I would really appreciate any helpful advice or suggestions! Thank you!!
let them go due to "recession" and then a few weeks later asked them to cover for a week whilst they take their 4th holiday / vacation this year? Over sensitive?
I'm majoring in latin american studies and i'm thinking about double majoring in poli sci and i was wondering if it'll open up any new job opportunities or if it's a waste of time. Before you say anything I know they're both pretty obscure majors and I'm planning on going to law school but if i don't I just want to know if the poli sci degree would be of any help in finding a job.
Obviously with the unemployment rate at its highest level in 26 years, this 10.2% figure is important, but as we look at the short term and long term economic future, which of these statistics becomes more important?
With a total unemployment rate rising to 10.2% in October, the rate of job losses declined by nearly a 25%in that same month. I am not an economist, so please help me understand if this is truly a silver lining (whatever that means) or if one statistic makes the other insignificant.
I'm writing a book and I need a full blueprint of a large cruise ship. I just need a diagram to go off of. Like showing where everything is. If possible, one with a cargo hold in the bottom. But if not that is fine. Also as detailed as possible, if possible.
Hypothetically, a friend may have some info about a coworker. She is unsure about whether or not theft has occurred at her work, but she does think so. She wanted to send an email to her boss saying what she thinks happened. She does not want the thief to know that she is the one to tell. She wants to do it anonymously. Her thought was to make up a new email address to send this message about the theft. Would this work? Or will she be found out?
I mean, I know that it's not 'illegal' per say...But surely an employer can't fire you over something like that. Especially when you're one of few employees who comes in, does the job, and works hard without complaining. This happened to my friend. I think he stands a shot at not only getting his job back with BACKPAY, but stands a shot at getting the GM fired (he's not all that great anyway--everyone knows that and agrees!). I told him to consult a lawyer. Any suggestions?
Something that you don't have to pay for to start up with and that makes you good money. I'm a writer and really need something like this for some extra funds.
I am not a classroom type person and i want to get out of school and pursue my dream since i was little and also want to be able to finish my Bachelors in Teaching Special Ed. how do i do this while working on the police force???? Any help or suggestions???

I'm looking at a managing editor position with a small weekly newspaper. I'm just out of school with my BA with 3.5 years university newspaper experience. I'm in Texas, if that helps. What's a fair offer?
pieces of furniture this spring/summer. I would like suggestions on how to make this job NOT seem overwhelming - as he and I are both nearly 60 and I have arthritis in both knees. I'd like an easy system and organized system - so it is possible and not too insane an idea. Our house is old, at least 75 years old and is in need of some TLC. Anyone have any suggestions/reading material to address these issues? Sourcing it out is not an option due to tight finances. Thanks!
I was with a temp agency and was hurt while at work (carpal tunnel) but was told I could do lite duty. They said they had nothing for me. THen told me to come in and sit at a conference room table with no computer, phone, paper NO ANYTHING. Just sit there til they told me to go home. I received UE now they are saying I voluntarily quit when they are the ones who said they had no work I could do.
of needing at least ten donations at a dollar each & it being required that the employee get at least this amount or they will have to pay the remainder or be written up for not selling at least ten and not paying for what isn't sold -out of their tips.
Is this fare? can they do this? what if they didnt get tipped all night and it was slow?
It's for international teens to do volunteering via the internet. As an adult, volunteering here and there has given me a lot more confidence, and always helps with work experience on resumes and leads to good jobs.
Any comments? Did you work as a teen? Did you enjoy it? Do you have teens who do?
When I'm cruising around Askville I frequently get a binging sound followed by a message saying I had an "Ajax Error". The messages usually come in multiples of 3 or 4 and are difficult to clear from my screen so I can get on to the next exiting adventure on the 'Ville.
every morning yew wake up, get ready for the day, sometimes go to work or study if your a student, eat, drink, walk the dog or whatever, maybe theres a tv programme you like thats on at 6, same old pub down the road, same old faces, sleep....I can't help but think that routine dominates our lives so much that most of us aren't enjoying it as much as we should. Yew think ooo a holiday would help, and yes the idea does excite you for a bit but most of the time when you get there you fall straight into planning every single day out so theres not really any suprise left. Kind of sad to think about really...Is there anything without routine??
everywhere! It's not that noticable, because it's so fine, but it seems to be on everything and everyone. And they are hacking up furballs, and not in the litter box. So, I got to thinking... Maybe I'll shave my cats and be done with the cat hair problem. Now on the slight chance that I actually do this, and the slim chance that I survive the encounter, are there any downsides??? Besides the cost of the shaving cream, the multiple razors, first aid salve and bandages??? I know the cats aren't likely to be too happy with the turn of events, but will they be safe and warm enough without their fur covering? Will they suicide bacause they look too strange? Am I likely to find "presents" in obscure places?
I'm a 20 year old college student and obviously don't have the means to purchase a house right now, let alone time! I figure by the time I actually do buy a house, prices will be back to normal and I'll be working a couple more years of my life to pay off my mortgage than I might've if I was born just a few years earlier! Is there any way I can "get in" on this market that's sure to rebound? I've got around $10,000 in stocks right now. If there's something better I can do with that money, let me know!
In the early days of Askville, Askville seemed much more like a "community" than it does now--where everybody got to know one another (for good or bad), and many formed groups of friends who more-or-less hung-out in the same Discussion Boards, and complimented and PMed one another on a semi-regular basis. Sure, some of us got into arguments from time-to-time, but they rarely escalated into the vile types of DB exchanges that now seem to seem to be becoming the "norm" on here.
What makes it even worse is that a great many early members have either left Askville entirely, or show-up only rarely these days--leaving Askville mainly to "drive-by" Question askers and transient members I've never even heard of! Most of the "old guard" has virtually disappeared (to the delight of many of the more trollish newer members!), and I--for one--take little or no delight in coming here anymore.
Why hang-out with a bunch of strangers--many of whom are downright unpleasant?
