      SOFTWARE DEVELOPER

Amazon is looking for an experienced technical expert to join the Askville team as part of the New Products Group. The New Products group is a very high-profile group focused on launching new startup businesses for Amazon. Askville is the first startup incubated out of this group.

The candidate should be creative and passionate about creating innovative and good user experiences on the web with a good understanding of client-side and server-side technology. The candidate should have experience in designing and programming scalable, high availability systems involving huge data sets in excess of hundreds of gigabytes to terabytes of data. The candidate should also be highly skilled in the art of indexing databases, schema design, performance tuning, database replication techniques, query optimization and handling database complexity. The candidate should also have strong experience in coding algorithms and data structures that produces superior performance.

Job Qualifications:
- BS or MS in Computer Science or equivalent.
- 3+ years of experience in software development.
- Extensive experience building C++ and/or Java based applications on Linux.
- Experience developing/designing large software systems.
- Knowledge of Tomcat, Apache, and application servers.
- Comfortable with HTTP Protocol, SOAP, XML, J2EE, Javascript, AJAX

      FLASH DESIGNER

Are you a talented, enthusiastic and innovative flash/UI designer who is looking to build cool flash applications in the casual gaming/virtual world space? Amazon's New Products Group seeks a flash/UI designer who likes working in a startup-like environment where they will be asked to take concepts and make them into reality. This is a great opportunity to work with a top notch product development team at Amazon and your work will be part for a major initiative that Amazon is incubating.

You will be responsible for brainstorming, building wire frame designs and user interface designs of the entire website as well as prototyping/developing flash applications for the website. You will also be responsible for overall website UI, produce and develop animation/graphics for site and help other incubation projects within the New Products Group.

Job Qualifications:
- 5+ years of professional design experience
- A mastery of the principals of web design and scalable dynamic GUIs.
- Possess excellent knowledge of HTML/CSS, JavaScript and Flash for rapid prototyping purposes.
- Expertise in Flash, Actionscript, Photoshop, Illustrator, Dreamweaver, Javascript, and code level HTML is essential.
- A killer portfolio of online materials that demonstrate expertise in applied techniques and working knowledge of graphic and UI design.
- Experience in designing avatars and user experiences for casual games is desired but not mandatory.
