Details:

a budget - but you can safely look for things in the $40 range. I already have an individual gift for each nurse, something I know that they like (something different for each nurse), but I would like some ideas for other things for a gift basket.

If you are a nurse, is there something that would be good for them for their job?

Thanks!

Consider a fruit bouquet. Around my area there is Incredibly Edible Delites and I believe they have locations around the country plus there have to other companies that also make fruit bouquets. It’s unique gift which will bring a smile to those who receive it. Following are a few examples of what you can get.

"Suggestion from the "old nurse"."

If it were me, the gift that would mean the most, would be a personal letter of commendation. It is  permanent,  personal, and it is free - except for your time.     It can be specific to what good qualities you appreciated in each one. Give a copy to  the nurse, and let her/him know you have given a copy to the hospital Admin office, or Personnel department so it goes into her permanent file.

I have notes and letters from appreciative patients that I have kept for years, and once in a while get them out. I remember each patient who wrote the note, and usually what was the matter with them.  Mostly, though, they remind me of why I love my job.  (Once in a while even nurses need to be reminded that they love their job!)

Those kinds of letters make the whole hospital happy, from administration down to direct supervisors, as well as the nurse who receives it.

"their job is tough, and they might need something to give them spiritual strength for inspiration..."

Chicken soup books are great books that uplift spirit and empower.
A rosary made of their birthstones,
a personalized wall clock with their name or picture in the clock,
A Bible if theyr'e Christian...
Something funny but sweet... like,
a caricature poster of each of them with best traits and funny quotes about them.
Or sexy sleepwear and lingerie sets...
stuffed toys...

I have  lady friends who are Nurses [who I sometimes take care of] they are always buying and talking about soft white shoes that will be comfortable to work in, they are on their feet all day or night and a soft pair of shoes would be great. [I bet you already thought of that Wright.].

CAK, you are very welcome! Not only are those kinds of letters appreciated by the nurse personally, they are a big boost at the time for the nurses's yearly evaluations- which can mean a pay increase, or a benefit to their resume if they ever need to change jobs.
