Details:

All of a sudden, my Windows Media Player won't appear when I click on the icon, nothing comes up. I have no idea why this has happened, and have no idea how to correct it. I hope nothing is wrong with my computer.

"Check the shortcut"

If it's a shortcut on your desktop or Quick Launch, check that the shortcut points to the right file by right-clicking, selecting Properties, and making sure the Target field says something like C:\Program Files\Windows Media Player\wmplayer.exe.
Also check to make sure it's still installed by going to Add/Remove programs (in Windows XP) or Programs & Features (in Windows Vista).
Lastly, try opening a media file (.avi, .mpeg, etc...) and see if Windows Media Player opens that way.

I suggest installing GOM player. It's much better than Windows Media Player and you'll see that if you install it. You can download it here: http://www.gomlab.com/eng/GMP_download.html

If for some reason you don't like GOM player(I don't see how that can happen), then you can try KMPlayer from here: http://www.softpedia.com/progDownload/KMPlayer-Download-26726.html

Some people claims it's even more awesome than GOM. I have installed it and it's about the same, only looks different. Both can play nearly every video format there is.

Perhaps you installed another media player that disabled it. Media players are often bundled as crapware with MP3 players, cameras, and other devices.
