Details:

I really LOVE to give gifts. Usually there is one special gift that I am so excited to give. Often times it is for my husband and almost every time he guesses what it is before I give it. What about you? Is there a gift this year that you are super excited about giving? Who is it for, what is it and why are you excited? Is it something special?

"A cello"

My boyfriend's sister has been asking for a cello for Christmas for the last 7 years or so.

So, i decided to make this year the one that she actually gets it! I found an entire cello starter kit for only $100... which although it is an amazing deal was way out of my modest budget. The good news is, that i got 5 other family members to chip in so that (with shipping) we only ended up paying around $30 each. I even made i giant bow to go on it... I can't wait for her to walk in Christmas morning and see it next to the tree.

I believe that there will be massive amounts of crying and hugging :)

Now, typically, Im the bah-humbug type when it comes to Christmas...always have been... Never been much of a holiday person...

But, this year, I have had a very fortunate year, and I am going to share that with my fiancee... She is a bar tender and a university student, and I am a professional who works 8-5 M-F - so we dont get to spend a whole lot of time together... She often talks about wanting to purchase bicycles, but we really cant afford them...she thinks it will be a great source of exercise and time for us to spend together as well...

So, I went out and custom ordered two really nice Mountain Bikes from Raliegh!!! One for me, one for her. I also bought her a helmet, gloves and two outfits for exercising in (as well as outfits for myself to work out in!!) Im really looking forward to not only getting to spend more quality time with her, but also looking forward to shrinking my expanding waistline at the same time... (8+ hours of desk jockying has that effect on you...)

Best part - she is trying and trying to guess, but doesnt have an inkling of a clue!!!!

Merry CHristmas to you and yours!!!

"something special for a struggling single mom"

We are adopting a family for Christmas and spending more on them than on our family, with our family's blessings.  Yesterday I found a George Foreman G5 ("the next grilleration") on sale for almost 50% off, so I got it for her.  It is not something she would ever be able to buy for herself and I'm betting it is something that will blow her away.  That is going to be fun to give her.  I might not see her face when she opens it, but just knowing we have been able to give her something she would never get otherwise and which will be a giant help in her kitchen is really fun.

"Necklace for my girlfriend."

My girlfriend was the maid of honor in her best friend's wedding this year.  The bride gave her a diamond and blue sapphire ring as a thank you for everything.

Well, I was able to track down a matching pendant, and I'm really excited to give it to her.  I can't wait, she's going to love it!

"I have 2"

Every year, I spend months planning the perfect gift for my husband.  This is tough because he has everything or buys everything he wants.  We have a long history of him buying what he wants before Christmas.  I finally put my foot down on that one.  This past summer, he was traveling to Myrtle Beach to watch my stepson's baseball tournament.  Naturally, he took his golf clubs with him.  Unfortunately, the airline got him to Myrtle Beach but his golf clubs went to some unknown destination.  Not to be thwarted, he talked the airline into arranging a loan of some rather nice clubs from one of the courses down there or some place.  The thing is, he fell in love with those clubs.  Now his clubs were a nice set I gave him the first year we were married.  I know nothing about golf, but had a friend of his help me out.  He loves those clubs but hates the driver.  I pay attention.  He was so disappointed when the airline got his clubs to him.  He spent weeks talking about his loaner clubs.  They were beyond his budget, so he slowly let it die.  This year, he's getting a new driver.  I've been saving for months to afford it.  Who knew a silly graphite stick could cost so much?  He knows nothing about it.  He saw one box I received for him and thinks he's getting some clothes.  He is, but he's also getting that driver.  I can't wait to see his expression.

The other gift I'm excited about is for a friend.  A friend of mine and her family have had a tremendously difficult year.  They have lost just about everything and are looking at a rather bleak Christmas.  They are proud and positive people and don't make much about their struggles.  Still, she let it slip that she was worried about making Christmas special for the kids.  These kids are like my own.  I love them dearly.  I have loaded up a big Santa bag of toys for the kids.  I didn't want to hurt her pride, so I did check with her first.  Our friendship is the kind of special gift I treasure.  We would and have done anything for each other.  She has been there for me and was even prepared to carry a child for me when it looked like some health issues had impacted my fertility.  With her okay, I get to help those little ones have a happy surprise on Christmas morning and help take a burden off her shoulders.  They won't know the toys are from me.  That makes it more magical.  They'll just have a wonderful Christmas morning.
