"When will the next game in the Hitman series release?"

Details:

Fox is releasing Hitman the movie this month I believe. Is there another game scheduled with this release? If not when is the next game due out? I really want to have it for Xbox 360 or even Wii. How cool would it be to use the Wiimote to assassinate a terrorist leader?

Hitman is a stealth game series developed by the Danish company IO Interactive, now a division of Eidos Interactive. The series is available on PC as well as several video game consoles, including the Nintendo GameCube, PlayStation 2, Xbox, and Xbox 360. The game series has since expanded into a novel, Hitman: Enemy Within written by William C. Dietz, and a Hitman film adaptation which is loosely based on the storyline of the games. Released on November 21, 2007, it starred Timothy Olyphant in the role of Agent 47.

The series revolves around Agent 47 (usually simply referred to as "47" or "Mr. 47"), an assassin-for-hire, whose flawless record places him in high demand among the wealthy and elite. The games feature a mix of orchestral and electronica musical scores, composed by Jesper Kyd. Hitman 5 is in the works, according to the Eidos team it will be released in 2010.

The sequel to the Hitman movie, which is still in its early stages, won't be just a sequel to a pretty crummy movie. It'll also be a marketing tie-in for the next Hitman game, which is due out next year.

Variety reports that the movie, which we told you about yesterday, would "contain story elements from Hitman 5", a game due to be released "in late 2010".

While we knew the game was in development, but 2010? Handy. Been hanging out for some new Hitman.

UPDATE - IO's community manager has said "I can tell you that there is no way we will be basing a storyline for a new Hitman game on the story in a licensed movie. That's just not how we work so you shouldn't be concerned about that."

I agree with So-Crates on all points. Schurm82, if you liked Hitman, check out The Darkness if you haven't already. And BioShock (which is even better). Call of Duty 4 is a different kind of game -- my current favorite (a fast-paced first-person shooter).
