We are going to Paris for our honeymoon and we want to decorate the ballroom in a Paris theme. What would a Paris theme look like? What are some good ideas that will make it feel Paris like?

What a fun wedding theme! Congrats on your upcoming marriage!

How about naming each of the tables different landmarks in Paris? You could have the Eiffel Tower table, the Champs Elysees table, the Notre Dame table, the Louvre table. You could use toothpick French flags in the food -- either at the buffet table or on each plate if you're having a plated meal.

For food, choose French food. Make sure to include French patisseries and lots of cheese. Serve French wine! To carry on a French wine theme, decorate the bar area with grapes. Instead of serving coffee with the cake, serve French espresso or cappuccino.

Paris is known for its lights, so get a lot of fancy lights to indeed "light up" your wedding! Find a miniature Eiffel Tower and place it near the entrance of the venue. You can also have an ice sculptures of the monument made. Order some small Eiffel Towers and give them away as wedding favors.

Fleur-de-lis emblems have long been associated with Paris. Make sure to incorporate these! And how about these cute Eiffel Tower votive candles? http://www.shindigz.com/catalog.cfm?pgp=4S059F&AID=10380652&PID=534072&SID=Eiffel+Votives

From http://ezinearticles.com/?Great-Wedding-Theme-Ideas&id=551490:

Paris Wedding Theme - If you are a person who admires French chic then consider a Paris themed wedding. What’s to love about the city? Start with its quaint cafes, French patisseries with their mouth watering offerings, the Moulin Rouge, perfume, the Eiffel Tower, haute couture, the street side vendors, and watercolors. Maybe all of these make up Paris for you. So duplicate this in your nuptials. Have the hors d’oeuvres as different kinds of wine and cheese with French breads.

A delicate lacy bridal gown with a tight bodice tied on the front or a vintage lace gown is just perfect with pearls and some great perfume. Your hubby can dress in a smart black tuxedo with silver accessories. Have vintage accessories at your tables too. Vintage postcard place cards are a start with fleur-de-lis emblems emblazoned on your tableware and weddings invitations. Have little Eiffel Tower mementos to give your guests as wedding favors and depending on the look you are going for. Have some romantic French ballads playing in the background and you are all set.

"I always think of art when someone mentions Paris..."

Personally, the mention of Paris always makes me think of art. After all, that's where a lot of the best artists trained (lot to mention the Louvre).

Now first of all, I'm going to assume you haven't decided on any decor (flowers, table linens, centerpieces, etc.) Having said that, I would suggest doing something reminiscent of a Monet painting.
I'm not sure how many tables you'll have, but picture something like this:
Table A - Light oranges & yellows, very pastel but bright. For flowers, something along the lines of daisies, marigolds, daffodils, or asters.
Table B - Light to medium blues, tending toward aqua colors, very watery-feeling. Flowers like forget-me-nots & hyacinth, or eucalyptus (if you can stand the smell - or get some dried).
Table C - Bright reds & oranges. Flowers like poppies, lilies, or darker toned gerbera daisies.
Table D - Various shades of green (ranging from seafoam to a bright yellowish-green). Beautiful greenery like ferns.
Table E - Deep pinks & purples. Flowers like violets, heather, or orchids.

*Alternately, you could buy gerbera daisies in an assortment of colors & separate them to go with each table (I believe these are died, as they come in almost every color imaginable).
**If you had more tables than this you could either repeat colors or come up with more variations. Just remember to keep each table in a color GROUP, not a single color. Also, the order's not important, I just wouldn't put 2 similar colors right next to each other.

If your food is not already decided, I would definitely include fresh fruit, multiple cheeses, & all sorts of breads. Also, the French believe in fully savoring your food - think rich sauces, breads that are so fresh & crispy you can hear the crust crackle, and everything should smell as good as it tastes. And of course, have nice wine to drink (or for any children/non-drinkers invited, think about providing sparkling juice).
If your menu is already planned, you may still want to offer fresh fruit on the tables. Besides being edible (& tasty!), it makes for an attractive decoration. You could even have the fruit on each table match the color scheme (ie. strawberries on a red table).
If the reception is planned for later in the day, I would have sparkling lights everywhere. Paris seems to be busy even late at night, so there are always lights all around.

Hope this all helps, and congratulations & good luck with the wedding! :)

I would recommend you buy/borrow/rent "The Magic of Monet's Garden" if you'd like to see his choices in flowers (all grown in his garden in France) Or look at "Claude Monet" if you want to get a better feel for his works.

"Here are some ideas."

I don’t know what you know about Paris or if you have been there before, and I don’t know what kind of budget you’re trying to operate with, nor do I know how fancy you want it to be, so my ideas are pretty general, but here you go:

First, if you have never been to Paris, I would try to find some movies with Paris in them just to get you in the French spirit.  Audrey Tautou is great French actress, and she was in Amelie and The Da Vinci Code, to get you started, though I'm sure there are many other great movies with Paris in them.

Okay, so are you serving any French-style food?  It need not be actual French food if that is too expensive or just too fancy, but you could have food that is inspired by that.  Julia Child wrote several cookbooks about French Cooking, so you could review one of those for some ideas.

As far as the decorations go, when you say Paris, I assume you mean Paris and do not really mean like "French Country"-style with all the pastel floral and stripe patterns.  One of the first things I think of when I think of Paris - aside from the Eiffel Tower - is the cafes.  If you didn’t mind your reception being a little less formal, you could have a section of the room set up with small bistro tables with two or three chairs per table.

Black wrought iron metalwork would be nice.  You could keep it simple with like wrought iron candle holders, or wine bottle racks, or even have scrolled wall grilles to use as centerpieces or backdrops, such as this:

Large Round Wall Grille

Using various types of fleur-de-lis would probably be pretty simple to find.  Also, though you may think differently, bold bright reds, greens, golds, and blues are good Paris colors, depending on what your "wedding color" is.  Or you could use creams and pinks and browns if you want something not as bright.

Really, it is going to come down to what you like and what you can afford.
