Details:

My 15 week old daughter was born 50th percentile weight and 75th percentile length. At her one month she was 50th percentile weight and 45th percentile length. Then at her 2 month she was 85th percentile weight and 75th percentile length. We went to the ped today and Isabella (3.5 mos) is in the 97th percentile weight and 90th height. I am getting worried that she is gaining too much weight too fast and that she is jumping from percentile to percentile too quickly.

The ped said I have been feeding her too much and that for her age I am Still feeding her too much. Isabella eats about 30 oz a day...the problem is she has been eating this much since she was 6 weeks old. She has not once ever turned the bottle away like she is full. We always have to stop her from continuing. Should I be concerned? If so - what should I do?

"for GOD sake, stop worrying"

she is too young for you to start worrying about her body.  okay, I know you will keep on worrying, I would.  find out if she has the right nutrients and the right formula.  you know yourself that you eat some foods that does not fill you and you eat again.  either go to the la leche league or call them to find out about either a nutritionist who specializes in infants or even another pediatrician. maybe, they can help you. I don’t think it is a good idea to stop in the middle of feeding her.  that might backfire later on when she gets older.  maybe, you can give her less then what you usually do and maybe she will stop when she realizes there is no more milk.  however, putting this infant on a "diet" at 3.5 months at so young of an age, to me is unhealthy and pyschologically unsound.  it sounds like you are so stressed out that you might be stressing her.  you be surprised what infants can feel about your moods.  my newborn was 6 weeks premature and weighed only 4 lbs.  his sucking was very weak and the doctor said if he doesn’t gain any weight, they will take him back to the hospital.  I breast fed him at first, but I was stressed because it didn’t seem like he was getting any formula at all. so I bottled fed him with breast milk and he stayed on the bottle longer even though his sucking was weak and  I was able to get in an ounce and that relaxed me.  but it still seemed like he was feeding a little better, even though I had to thump his feet (as instructed) a little.  I do believe that when you are stressed so is your baby.  so be kind to both of you.  another suggestion is to start giving her a little pureed food and lessen the milk so that she will feel fill.  but suggest this to your pediatrician first.   good luck and GOD bless.

these books might be helpful, especially pre feeding skills. your baby might be too young to start giving solid foods.

This baby's only 3.5 months old. You can't start stressing about normal variations that young. She's small enough that one bowel movement one side or the other of the weight measurement can swing her into a different percentile.
