"Chairman and Chief Executive John Chambers. of Cisco Corporation"

Hightest Level: 6 by awarulz on Nov 04 2009 (16 days ago)
Official Rating
Three stars
The San Jose networking titan expects sales for the period to rise 1% to 4% from a year ago, compared with the 1% decline Wall Street had projected. That compares to a 13% decline in revenue posted in the fiscal first quarter. The company is returning to growth faster than expected, as Chambers said the market turnaround, while early, is gaining momentum. In particular, the U.S. market was starting to stabilize with orders flat from a year ago.

"We're seeing solid indications of an economic recovery," he said during a conference call late Wednesday. "Most markets are starting to show signs of improvement."

The revenue growth in the fiscal second quarter represents a 2%-to-5% improvement on a sequential basis, compared with the average seasonal sequential increase of 3%.

The last fiscal third quarter is increasingly looking like the bottom, Chambers said. As a result of the return to growth, the company plans to increase its spending, including targeted headcount additions, he said.

Cisco shares rose 4% to $24.23 in after-hours trading.
