Details:

I have a silk rose arch over the doorway in my bedroom that is getting to look dirty. I don't want to throw it out. How would I go about cleaning it?

"If the dirt is just dust..."

If the dirt is just dust (and I can hope that no other nasty dirty substances have found their way to over your bedroom door), then you might try taking it down, taking it outside and blasting it all over with a can of compressed air.  (They usually sell it for cleaning computer keyboards and other components, but it works pretty well blasting the dust off of anything that can stand up to the blast, really.)

"Buy a silk plant cleaner. You can get this item at Wal-mart for one. Petals catalog also sells it, "

although they are higher priced.  It comes in a spray can, much like hair spray.  It is non-toxic and requires no rinsing or wiping.  I use it on my silk plants about once a year.  I’d suggest taking the silk plant outside when you have no wind and spraying out there.  There is an odor to the spray that will dissipate within a day or two and leaving your plant outside for a few hours will help.  The smell is not terrible, but not the most pleasant either.  I have a cat and she has never been bothered with the smell, but I leave my silk plants outside for several hours before bringing them in after spraying.

The last can I bought was called Le Silk Shoppe Silk Plant Cleaner and I’m fairly sure I got it at Wal-mart or possibly Target.  It is an 18 ounce spray can.  At Wal-mart look for it in the floral and crafts section.

"Believe it or not this is the best way!"

Take it outside and squirt it with the hose, the water will not hurt it and it will dry out in the sun. My mother always had silk plants, but I had allergy's, as you know they are dust collectors. So the best way to keep them clean was out the back door with the hose.
