"Why can't I call this toll free number?"

Details:

The number is 888-225-5773. It's Puget Sound Energy customer service. When I call, I get the message 'this number can not be called from your dialing area'. But I can't find another number for PSE! Grr.

I don't have experience with PSE directly but encountered something similar. My bet is you're calling from a cell phone registered in other states, say, 212 from New York, 503 from Oregon, 650 from California, etc. You need to call from a local phone number: area code 206 or 425.

Many local-in-nature 800 numbers only work if you're calling from the local area (I suppose it's cheaper for the owner). Puget Sound Energy strikes me to be likely to be one of those.

The number 425-452-1234 is listed as the local or outside washington state phone number, but why not give it a go?
