An acre is 43,560 square feet. The measurements can vary. It could be a strip 1 foot wide and 8.25 miles long or a square measuring 208.7 feet on each side or any other combination that has area of 43,560 sq. ft. It is slightly smaller than a football field.

The area outlined in red is an acre.

Hope this helps.

The square root of 43,560 is 208.71032557111303, so I'd call one side 208 Feet 8.5 Inches.

an acre is equal to about 76% of a football field, when you consider both end zones.

A football field (including the two end zones) is 360 feet long and 160 feet wide for a total of 57,600 square feet. When you take away the two 30-foot-long end zones at each end, the field is 48,000 square feet, making an acre about 91% of the field.

There is actually a difference between "international acre" and "US survey acre" if you want to translate it into  "square meters", since there is a slight difference between the definition of a US yard  and an international yard! Here is the exact numbers:

1 international acre is equal to 4046.8564224 square meters

1 United States survey acre is equal to 4046.87261 square meters

"An acre mesurement is determined by a"

linear measurement of a 'chain' Way back in time, a man named 'Gunter' or 'Gunther' came up with this theory. One chain is equal to 66 linear feet. He also said that ten square chains is equal to one acre of land. So therefore, 66 X 66 X 10 is equal to 43,560 square feet - - and that is one acre of land. Gunter also said that there are four linear rods in one chain. And many alleys are one rod in width. A rod being 16.5 feet.
