"Babelfish is horrible, almost always wrong"

I am a 2nd year Spanish student and we do online homework so sometimes I'll hop over to a translator site if I see a new word or a new conjugation and babel fish always throws me in the wrong direction.  Wordreference.com has always been accurate and was recommended by my professor (I even have the WordReference.com iGoogle widget on my homepage so I just click home and type in my word and it translates it).  Freetranslation.com is also good and I used it exclusively before finding wordreference.com.

You can try Google Translate. It translates words, text and web pages. You can select Spanish to English, Chinese to English, ... and many others. Under the "Tools" tab, you can find bookmarklets and integration with Google Toolbar.
