Details:

I need to send my original UPC/POS sticker that comes in the box of the playstation 3 to gain a 5 free blu-ray promotion, but I am worried because I don't know if this sticker is needed to perform a warranty claim in case I would need to do it in the future.

They would use the serial number of the PS3 for a warranty claim, not the UPC code. When I worked at Apple we had similar rebates for printers and things where they had to send in the UPC, but all service was based off of the serial number of the computer, not the UPC on the box. The UPC is usually just used as a proof of purchase for things like the rebates. For service they'd want a number that is unique to that machine, not the same number that is used on millions of boxes.

No, send in the UPC for the promotion. I did. Your warranty is based on your time of purchase, verified by receipt or when you register your console at us.playstation.com. It's based on the unique serial on each console.

No, they will use the unique serial number that is on the console itself, not the UPC, which is just an identifier that says "I am a 'x' GigaByte PS3"  for the store's computer to associate with a description and price.

You usually only need the serial number that is on the console itself for warranty repairs and such.
So go ahead and send out your UPC code to get them DVDs.
And people usually just throw their boxes away anyway.

"copy it"

You can take it off and send it out just be sure to ake a copy of it. Sometimes you can use the copy one to send out, ive done this before. If it says "a copy" then it should work. Also if its the promotion sponsored by sony then you are fine, many people have done it.

The only sticker you need is the one on the system itself that says do not remove. After that they will send you a box to ship the ps3 in incase of a problem, they do a very good job with it.

Soldierone, regarding your answer "copy it":

I have read that the only one that you need to perform a warranty claim is the serial number. The one that I need to send is the original sticker of the UPC code, is it the one with the bar codes?
