Salmon Faverolles, Turken, and White Leghorn

Araucana: Easter Egger
Weights: Rooster: 6 lbs. Hen: 5 1/2 lbs.
They are noted for their green egg color. They also have beards and small combs. I've been very surprised by the amount of eggs that they lay. I rate them almost with the Rhode Island Red. They rarely go broody and they are hardy to disease. They are a little on the shy side.

Buff Orpington
Weight: Rooster: 10 lbs. Hen: 8 lbs. Egg color: Brown
This breed is used for meat and eggs. They grow to be pretty large. The hens make good mothers and the breed is hardy. We really liked this breed, they were very gentle. Hens can lay up to 220 eggs a year.

Dark Brahma

A modest egg layer, can lay up to 100 eggs a year.

Golden Laced Wyandotte

They have a rose comb, which makes them less susceptible to frostbite. Plumage is golden brown laced with greening black. They also make a good exhibition bird. Modest egg layers about 140 eggs a year. Our rooster hawk is one of these. He was our favorite from the beginning.

Black Jersey Giant

Black with a green sheen. Good show bird. A large bird used for both meat and eggs. Lay up to 140 eggs a year. Can take the cold very well.

The Plymouth Rocks are used for meat and eggs. They can lay up tp 240 eggs a year. They are docile and are good mothers. This is the breed that my daughter won first place at the fair.

Rhode Island Red

Reds are used for meat and eggs, but more for their eggs. They are hardy and can put up with poor diets and housing better than other breeds. I've been very impressed with their egg quality and quantity. Almost an egg a day. They can be a little aggressive to other birds.

Salmon Faverolle
Egg color: tinted
They have beards and muffs. They also have five toes. They are used for show, but also are good layers and excellent for meat. They are good mothers. They lay up to 160 eggs a year. This breed tends to be shy around other breeds. They tend to be the underdogs of the flock.

Turken

They stand the cold very well, even though they have less feathers. Used for both meat and eggs. The hen is a good setter.

A very active chicken that can fly for some distances. This chicken is used for their eggs. They rarely go broody. In the morning they fill the coop with their songs. They lay at least an egg a day.
