"What works for me"

is; I remove them from the vase etc , Hold them by the stems over my kitchen sink and spray with my kitchen sprayer,  the sprayer that is tied into the spigot.  I have some very expensive silk flowers and I also make arrangments and this has always worked for me.  If it is warm out I  put them in the shade to dry, but most of the time, I just put on newspaper to dry inside.  I've never ruined them doing this.

"I use a hair dryer or vacuum cleaner."

I use a hair dryer if the dust is minimal. If they are real dusty, I use my canister vacuum cleaner. It is not as powerful as my regular vacuum. Also I can change the hose to blow and not suck. If you can do that to your vacuum and still feel the air flow is too strong, I put a pair of nylons over the hose. Sometimes I use a small feather duster. The best thing to do is do it often, so they don't get to dusty and are harder to clean.

"Try rice/salt or a Dawn detergent! But don't forget some precautions.."

Try rice. Take a paper bag and place a cup or two of white rice (uncooked of course). Place the plant inside and shake. Give it a few good shakes and the rice will dust the plant off. A variation of this method involves the same steps, only with salt!

Or, fill your sink about 1/2 full with warm water and 2-3 tsp. of Dawn dish detergent. Take your silk flowers/plants and swish them in the sudsy water several times. Lay on a dishtowel to dry. This method has allowed me to use the same silk flowers for years.

Cleaning may have an effect to your silk flowers but if you take these precautions, maybe your silk flowers can last longer.

After you clean your silk flowers, avoid drying the flowers in the sun. The sunshine may cause the color to fade.

Do not use hot water for cleaning. The hot temperature may melt the glue of the silk flowers and make the flowers fall out.

Also, during cleaning, do not wipe the petals vigorously. Some silk flower materials are very delicate and need gentle care.

Always handle the silk flowers with care. They can last longer than they should be.

The kind you use for cleaning the dust from computer parts, works well on silk plants and florals too.  Just blow that dust right off.
