Mediacom recently began providing its customers with what it calls an unprecedented boost in the number of channels added to the line-up and available at no added service cost, according to the communications company.
“It is exciting to be able to do this for our customers,” said Mediacom Director of Operations for Central Illinois Gary Wightman. “This is the most channel changes we have had in the past few years. We have had phone and Internet upgrades and now this channel upgrade.
“With the delivery of 15 popular cable channels in high-definition (HD) transmission, Mediacom more than doubles the number of HD channels automatically available to Family Cable customers,” said Wightman.
Mediacom created a new digital channel set that expands by 30 percent of more the number of channels available to all basic, entry-level subscribers and includes a free tuner to enable non-digital customers to view those channels, Wightman said. Expanded offerings in the new Digital Broadcast Basic (DBD) set include Public Broadcasting’s new digital channels, WILL Create and WILL World; plus two public affairs channels from C-SPAN, several faith-based channels and other choices.
The new DBD channel set and the 15 high-definition channels added to the Family Cable come without any change in customer subscription fees.
Mediacom technicians began adding the new channels in the middle of June, with work continuing, according to Wightman.
When completed, most customers will see their basic cable line-ups increase from 12 or 13 channels to 20 more channels.
The big boost in high-definition channels — generally located between 700 and 763 — increases the quantity from 14 to 29 and includes all local commercial and public broadcast stations and the most popular cable channels that provide news, sports, movies and film programming.
“Mediacom’s priority is to provide value to our customers through exceptional programming and a quality customer experience,” said Wightman. “Today, the most significant part of the customer experience comes from the digital technology that we’re putting in the hands of more customers than ever before.”
Customers with older televisions or non-digital service will be given a free digital tuner that is small and can be placed beside or behind the television. Mediacom’s tuner adapts digital signals to any television is available for free for 12 months. The free device is limited to one per household, but additional tuners can be leased for $1.99 per month.

Other interesting questions:
How can I get a job writing Bonus Questions?
Could someone please walk me through the steps, if anyone knows how? I'm feeling so annoyed at the questions, and am pretty sure I could come up with something better than, "How much would my neighbor bleed if I stabbed him with David Hasselhoff" or "How many questions do I have to ask about body waxing" or "How many containers can I make out of a Dell laptop" or "Where can I buy merchanise related to psoriasis outbreak in Montreal" Anyway, I looked at the mturk site and didn't even see anything about questions for Askville. I don't want the money, but the thought of adding some sense to the bonus questions is tempting.

If you apply yourself how long would it take you to level up in the "askville bonus" topic?
How long would it take you to reach Level 6? The only way I can see using the bonus feature and making it worthwhile would be to level up as quickly as possible in the "askville bonus" topic. What do you think?

What do you think of Askville adding an "invite friends" feature?
I am not sure if we now can invite our friends to Askville right from our Askville account or not, I thought that would be a good idea if we had that. What do you think?

I can't believe this! The most important thing to me is that the accursed 'askville bonus' topic now seems to be
missing from the bonus questions (and they appear to be recycled or 'real person' questions). I am rubbing my eyes in disbelief. Consider the repercussions of not having the 'askville bonus' topic on every bonus question. Or the repercussions of having a real person asking and rating a question. If this isn't a dream, Hooray! Is it a dream?

Bonus Questions?
Now that it's been a few days, what do you think?

Bad feature? Get rid of it?

Good feature? Keep it?

What can you say about the quality and relevance of the questions? The repetitive nature? (I would think we'd be all be reporting this as abuse if a "regular" asker were to ask 4 questions about how many people were killed by the tornado in Denver today...)

Are you answering them? Voting to have some taken down? Enjoying any of them? What do you think the overall effect of adding this feature on Askville has been?

Feel free to make any comments you like in the DB, but if you take an answer slot, please answer FULLY - addressing all these points. And feel free to add any other thoughts you have on the Bonus Question feature.

What do you think of the Bonus Questions?
I know they just started, but I think the questions are really random. How does Askville choose the Bonus Questions? Where do they come from?

Have you answered any yet? What do you think???

Have the recent rash of Bonus Questions changed the way you think about Askville?
I already had the feeling that part of Askville's purpose was to have non-paid workers (us) field customer support issues from the Amazon.com website. Yahoo got in trouble for this some time back, because you can't not pay workers.

Now that the Bonus Questions seem to be coming from mTurk, implying that people are being paid to ask questions, it's even more blatant. If some people are being paid to write questions, but the rest of us are writing questions for free, and further being asked to edit the Bonus Questions for free, aren't we being ripped off?

Especially since it's been literally years now, and Quest Gold is still essentially worthless. Who else is getting peeved?

You can help to answer:
OK. I've been gone. Did something change? I only found six bonus questions in the first 100! And whats with the limes?
I am now slowly (and cautiously) re-entering the outskirts of Askville. Things seem different... Most of the yards still have Obama signs but only a few people are going in and out of the Bonus Center...

Would you think Askville will turn into another Myspace or Facebook?
You think Askville will start having features like they do on Myspace, Facebook or other community as that?

Profile background, top friends, adding music and videos to page, etc.

Would you mind and stop going to Askville, or highly encourage it? Opinions?
Would it even be possible?
Wouldn't it also defeat the purpose of this community?

Sorry lots of different questions......... lol.

But yeah, your thoughts?

If you were visiting Askville using an HP Pavilion TX2000z Laptop, would you think the Bonus Questions need fixing?
mturkers can ask bleeding and bloody stupid questions until the cows come home, but some people give feedback on Bonus Questions, which was requested, and they are suspended. Is that reasonable or productive?

Did you know there actually IS a Mr. Askville_Bonus?!
Check out the profile from the following link.

http://askville.amazon.com/view/ViewUserProfile.do?userId=9707024

All bonus questions are listed under this profile! Click on "Questions" and you will see them all!

It is clear why he is from Seattle, WA, since Askville office is located there, but why is that person a male?!

Is it because majority of bonus question askers are male? Or is it because most Askville staff members are male? What do you think?!

Why does this person have ZERO Quest Gold?! "He" has asked over 200,000 questions. With over 200,000 Quest Gold "he" should be at the top!! Lol! What do you think?!

P.S. I KNOW there is no real Mr. Askville_Bonus.

Do bonus questions = SPAM??????
Everytime I log into Askville...to either provide my personal insight, or ask a question of the group...I get bombarded with no less than 7-10 appeals to vote on, with 90% being Bonus Questions that make absolutely no sense at all and I can hardly tell what they are asking...
