PELOSI: Buy a $15,000 Policy or Go to Jail JCT Confirms Failure to Comply with Democrats’ Mandate Can Lead to 5 Years in Jail Friday, November 06, 2009
Today, Ranking Member of the House Ways and Means Committee Dave Camp (R-MI) released a letter from the non-partisan Joint Committee on Taxation (JCT) confirming that the failure to comply with the individual mandate to buy health insurance contained in the Pelosi health care bill (H.R. 3962, as amended) could land people in jail. The JCT letter makes clear that Americans who do not maintain “acceptable health insurance coverage” and who choose not to pay the bill’s new individual mandate tax (generally 2.5% of income), are subject to numerous civil and criminal penalties, including criminal fines of up to $250,000 and imprisonment of up to five years.

When I was maybe 22 or so, I and everyone I knew had that Miles Davis LP, "Kinda Blue," and at least one John Coletrane LP. It's certainly not like I was at all knowledgable about jazz or had much of an appreciation for it's history or scope or even how to really listen. It was "in the air", I guess, and only a part of a great deal of black music a lot of us flower children listened to.
I remember thinking back then that people who listened to jazz were male, over 40, and intellectual. I was intimidated.
I once let a Coletrane LP play all day over and over while I was sewing. At the end of the day, I had realized there was a beautiful "mathematical" world in the LP's construction, but didn't know what to do with this discovery ...
I listen now to old Weather Report, Wayne Shorter, Kieth Jerret, Diana Krall, some acid jazz, Scandanavian and French piano jazz, and love Hiromi Uehara, Malika Zarra, and this great Lebanese jazz guy whose name I can't remember.
