Nice Java IRC applet with the ability to use multiple channels and hold PM's in separate tabs.  Also contains many of the more advanced options/commands to use.

For something simpler, look at http://www.jpilot.com/jirc/  It's a lot smaller and simpler to use if you don't need mIRC in an applet.

You may check out this link : http://www.pjirc.com/demo.php

the only thing is, if your user doesn't have the java runtime environment, they can't chat until it is installed.

However, this is by far the most popular plugin

Will the Google Talk client work for you?

It means support for all Gmail users, Jabber and as of yesterday, AIM (i.e. AOL) users.

Follow this link to get the script:

good luck in the search!

Latest post on this question's discussion board:

ICQ has a flash based client at http://irc.icq.com/IrCQNet/chat2006.swf - but again, I tested it just now and saw that it wont let me (as a user) connect to any IRC network I want to. It seems to be hardwired to the ICQ IRC network. I like the interface a lot though compared to the java based ones. Also, Flash is the browser engine of choice these days rater than Java.

If I find something better I'll post again.
