They adapt and become immune to man made pesticides making them hard to get rid of. They grow quickly in numbers, the way my vet explained the flea population is a dog with 60 fleas on it means there are at best 30 fleas on the ground for everyone on my dog, carpeting, bed this puts your home with a population of at minimum 1800 fleas. The fleas live only about 90 days, each flea lays 60 eggs a day, wow is it out of control!
There are several natural controls worth trying that is safe for animals and people can live with it too!
The use of lemon, cedar and flea bane works well;
Take a lemon scoring the peel deep and pour boiling water over it and let set morning, give your pet a citrus sponging it kills fleas.
The use of cedar shampoos work well at repelling fleas, pet beds filling with cedar or cedar oil there should be sprays available for spraying pets bed also!
If you have tried vacuuming did you put flea powder in the vac bags?, The powder will kill any vacuumed up!
There is one plant I know of it's flea bane Daisy erigeron to repel fleas, it's an annual violet like daisy flower, if the woods are your back yard plant a thick bunch between your yard and forest it's like putting up a flea fence. Plant some around the house!
Here is a safe a biological way of control surrounding your home! I also suggest you try this deadly to flea larvae but safe for animal and human!

This is of course no over night operation it will be a battle to the bitter end hopefully for them fleas that have made a home in yours and on your pet!
When our boy was still alive we had a constant battle with fleas, our boy was the Hilton in the flea world compared to dogs with less hair..:@)
We were always at war, brushing was done outside only. Picking through his hair to find little critters taking up home was no fun!
