"Blue"

Officially, it is blue, see: http://www.imdb.com/gallery/ss/0121766/Ss/0121766/69831_R.jpg?path=pgallery&path_key=Christensen,%20Hayden

You can also check it out here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lightsaber#Colors  :

"Darth Vader began his career with a blue-bladed saber, eventually taken from him by Obi-Wan Kenobi and passed to his son Luke. (Vader might have done this simply because the saber constructed during his Jedi tenure was the only one on hand but in the video game Revenge of the Sith, it is revealed that Palpatine gave him the red lightsaber after the battle with Obi-Wan."

If he wanted red, he probably would have said he wanted one the color of Darth Vader's.

They sell some light up lightsabers that have the character it’s supposed to be on the box.  I think there is one for Darth Vader and Anakin and it lights up 2 different colors.  It’s pretty neat.  My son has the Anakin one too.  I’m pretty sure it’s blue.   I think Darth Vader might be red.

"Anakin's lightsaber was blue, light blue"

He lost it in Episode 3 - Revenge of the Sith, along with the hand that was holding it.  Obiwan Kenobi retrieved the light saber and eventually gave it to Luke Skywalker in Episode 4 - A New Hope, commonly known as Star Wars.  He actually lost one in Episode 2 - Attack of the Clones also.  Luke lost that saber in Episode 5 - The Empire Strikes Back, along with the hand that was holding it.

The saber color was very light blue, almost white.  When you buy the saber, just ask for Anakin's Saber, and they should know what you want.  But turn it on to verify it is not green or red or purple.

I hope this helps.

"It's blue, I know because I bought one for my son."

Prepare yourself because I think he's asking for the expensive ones. They make a series of light sabers that are collectable and they are expensive! I believe they cost $125.00 dollars the last time I bought one. Each has a unique handle that matches the one used by the character in the film. The light part of the light saber is a tube of some sort that lights up. It's very cool to look at in the dark. Just like in the films they light from the handle outward and they look so great in the dark. My sons get theirs out and play fight in the big room in the house where they won't hit any walls at night. It looks very cool. Darth Vader's is red. Luke Skywalker's is green and Anakin Skywalker's is blue. There is another one that is purple but I can never remember that character's name. Darth Maul's is red but you have to buy two and put them together because his is double bladed. The sabers also make noises like they make it the movies when they move through the air. Every kid I know, big and small, wants one.

My sons are all in their 20's and two Christmases ago I bought them each one as their "surprise" gift. They were all trying to act grown-up and ask for things for their new homes with their soon to be wives. They opened up their new vacuum cleaners, etc. and made very nice remarks about how Christmas wasn't about toys anymore and they really did appreciate these practical gifts. Then they opened up the light sabers! Oh my... All talk of how good it was to get a vacuum cleaner was forgotten because these were "the best presents, EVER!" and they spent the rest of the day playing with them. No matter how big they get, there is still a little boy inside waiting to get a chance to play.

I believe that I saw these light sabers in the Sharper Image catalogue that I was looking at last night. There is also a new one this season for Yoda. I don't know the color though.
