Details:

I have the first of 3 drafts coming up in Fantasy football leagues Monday evening. Any ideas as to who I should draft first and why? I'm torn between a good Running Back and a good Quarterback. I suppose my spot in the draft order will have a lot to do with it, so could use a few names.

"Gotta go with a solid running back in round 1, unless you have a late pick and take Peyton."

If you are using a standard Yahoo league, or anything else with similar scoring, its a MUST to take a running back in the first round. The site I linked to above does a good job with position-by-position rankings. From all of my fantasy football research, they have the best overall rankings.

But back to your question, in a 12- team league, a typical 1st round might likely pan out like this:

Pick 1- RB Ladainian Tomlinson
2- RB Steven Jackson
3- RB Larry Johnson
4- RB Frank Gore
5- RB Joseph Addai
6- RB Willie Parker
7- RB Brian Westbrook
8- RB Shaun Alexander
9- QB Peyton Manning
10- RB Laurence Maroney
11- RB Rudi Johnson
12-RB Reggie Bush

That might be a good guide to use for your first pick.

For instance, if you pick 9 and the guy #4 or 5 on that list is still around, jump on it because that would be an instant steal.

As you can see, RB's dominat the first round. The ONLY QB worth taking round 1 is Peyton, and even then, its only worth it late.

That site above is a good resource to print out though and have position-by-position rankings handy for draft day!

Hope this helps, and happy drafting!
