Yes maybe if you talking about pre-stressed concrete.  And allowing stress in your personal life is never a good thing (unless you thrive on stress)  I’m just guessing here  I will guess building:P

I didn't look this up, but I know that buildings have stress factors built in, which allow them to adapt to various environmental circumstances.  For instance, when atop a very high building, you may notice that it sways a bit.  Same with feeling vibrations on the upper level of a mall, or sitting on a bridge.  Scary! 

I think that being a civil engineer must be a stressful (!) job . . . many people's lives can ride on your decisions.  The recent bridge collapse is just one example.
